Zodiac compatibility versus Bazi compatibility

Matching by zodiac animal uses one character out of eight: the branch of the year. Two people with the same animal can be entirely different in the other seven. This calculator builds both full charts and compares them — the Day Masters (日干), the Day Branch (日支, traditionally called the spouse palace), the Useful God (用神) each needs and the Element Balance of the two charts together. If one birth time is unknown, that person is read with six characters.

Five axes instead of one score

A single number hides what fits and what rubs. The result is split into five axes:

  • Day Branch (日支) — do the two daily rhythms lock together?
  • Day Master (日干) — the relation between the two characters that stand for each of you
  • Roles — who leads and who supports
  • Useful God (用神) — does each have what the other’s chart needs?
  • Element Balance — are the five elements even when the two charts are combined?

What each of you is to the other

The same two people read differently in each direction. What the other is to you and what you are to the other are shown separately, each described as a person — “someone to lean on” or “someone to rest beside” — with one sentence on why.

Compatibility is not used to define the other person. The point of reading the structure is to see where your own reactions come from, not to pass judgement on someone who did not choose their eight characters.

Relationship types and the grade

Choose partner, spouse, friend, colleague, family, crush or ex. The same axis weighs differently by relationship. The grade is one of four words and no score is shown. For an ex, no grade is shown at all — a grade has no tense and reads as a prediction about a relationship that has ended.

I don’t know the other person’s birth date.

Use “See it together by link”: enter only your own details and send the link. As soon as the other person enters their birthday, both of you see the result. Your birth date is not shown to them.

What is our compatibility score?

No score is shown. You get one of four grades, the five axes and what each of you is to the other — that tells you where it fits and where it rubs, which a number cannot.

Can I check compatibility without a birth time?

Yes. That person is read with six characters. The Day Branch and Day Master axes come from the day, so they still stand.

How is this different from Chinese zodiac compatibility?

Zodiac matching uses the year animal only. Here both people’s full eight characters are built and compared.

Are the two birth dates stored?

No. The calculation ends in the browser. When you share by link, only the nicknames and the calculated characters are kept; dates and times of birth are not stored.
